Our Cardinals celebrated the end of Unit 1 in reading with a special publishing party! 🎉 Students sipped on hot chocolate while sharing their personal narratives and celebrating all the hard work they put into their writing.
We’re so proud of these young authors for finding their voices, sharing their stories, and growing as writers!

Second graders recently learned about our 39th president, Jimmy Carter! They explored his journey from growing up on a farm to serving in the Navy, returning home to run his family farm, and eventually becoming president.
They also learned about his Nobel Peace Prize and how he continued serving others after his presidency by volunteering with Habitat for Humanity to help build homes for people in need.
A great lesson in history, leadership, and the lasting impact of serving others!

FFA members and officers joined students from 26 other schools to grow their leadership skills and learn more about their roles as FFA members and officers. Highland Community Schools is hosting a Safe Sitter class on Monday, November 2 for Highland area students! This class is designed for students in grades 6–8 and teaches important skills for staying safe when home alone, caring for younger siblings, and babysitting.

👥 Grades: 6–8
💲 Cost: $50 (includes student manual and completion card)
💰 Scholarships are available based on financial need. Contact the school office for more information.

Highland was proud to host the annual Six Rivers Honors Choir Festival on Tuesday, September 29! Middle and high school singers from Belmont, Cassville, Highland, Potosi, River Ridge, Shullsburg, and Wauzeka came together for a full day of rehearsals before sharing their music in an evening performance.
Our middle school choir was directed by Ms. Abby Goodhall, with Mr. Caleb Mitchell as accompanist. Our high school choir was directed by Ms. Lyrica Daentl, with Ms. Rochelle Rochelle as accompanist. Directors selected the music and worked with students throughout the day to prepare four pieces from each ensemble.
We are so proud of our talented Cardinals who spent the day learning, growing, collaborating, and sharing their love of choral music! ❤️
A huge 𝑻𝑯𝑨𝑵𝑲 𝒀𝑶𝑼 to the guest clinicians, directors, accompanists, families, and everyone who helped make this special day possible!

Each Friday, a varsity athlete from our Volleyball or Football team visits an elementary classroom to share a book with our littlest Cardinals.
Our athletes are role models both on and off the field, and we’re proud to see them leading by example, inspiring a love of reading, and showing our students that learning is even better when shared with others!

After learning about the Thirteen Colonies and wrapping up their unit with the Boston Tea Party, our fifth graders put their knowledge to the test with a STEM challenge!
Their mission: design and build a crate using limited supplies that would float while holding a bag of tea. 🫖🌊📦
